The winter season begins September 12 with a four-week trial period, and continues through early March. Starting in late October, the team competes against other YMCA teams in a dual-meet format, with meets taking place roughly every other Saturday through January. A Divisional Championship meet takes place either the first Saturday or Sunday in February, with all team members competing. Those who post fast enough times at the Divisional meet qualify for the League Championship meet held the first Saturday in March.
The YMCA of Youngstown also hosts a six-week Spring Swim Clinic. The program is designed to prepare swimmers for the summer league season. This Spring Swim program has an additional fee.
Competitive swimmers are encouraged to sign up for the Neptune Long Course. This program is designed for swimmers with year round swimming experience. Focus of the long course program is aerobic conditioning and proper swimming technique.
The Neptune Long Course season runs for 10 weeks, from April 3 thru June 9. Practices will be held at the YSU Natatorium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm.
