Lindsay’s Law: Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Youth in Athletes
What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest?
A Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Sudden cardiac arrest is fatal if not treated immediately, most often by a defibrillator.

The winter season begins September 11 with a four-week trial period, and continues through early March. Starting in late October, the team competes against other YMCA teams in a dual-meet format, with meets taking place roughly every other Saturday through January. A Divisional Championship meet takes place either the first Saturday or Sunday in February, with all team members competing. Those who post fast enough times at the Divisional meet qualify for the League Championship meet held the first Saturday in March.
Spring Swim Clinic
The YMCA of Youngstown also hosts a six-week Spring Swim Clinic. The program is designed to prepare swimmers for the summer league season. This Spring Swim program has an additional fee.
Neptune Long Course
Competitive swimmers are encouraged to sign up for the Neptune Long Course. This program is designed for swimmers with year round swimming experience. Focus of the long course program is aerobic conditioning and proper swimming technique.
