Lifeguard Training

(Ages 16 & up) Entry requirements: Must be able to pass a physical competency test consisting of a 300 yd swim, two minute tread using legs only, dive to a depth of 10 ft, underwater swim of 15 feet, and be able to follow directions. Classes will meet at a combination of both the Davis Family YMCA and the Central YMCA. Participants must attend all classes.

Jr Lifeguard Program

null Not old enough to become a lifeguard? The Jr Lifeguard program might be for you! This program is designed for enthusiastic individuals who want to have fun in the water and make a difference in their community. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to help prevent and recognize aquatic risks,as well as assist and alert a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident or injury. Candidates must be at least 12 years old, able to tread water for two minutes, and swim 100 yards continuously. The course includes CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. Upon successful completion, participants can apply to volunteer as a Jr Lifeguard or Jr Swim Instructor at the Y.
