Lifeguard Training

(Ages 16 & up) Entry requirements: Must be able to pass a physical competency test consisting of a 300 yd swim, two minute tread using legs only, dive to a depth of 10 ft, underwater swim of 15 feet, and be able to follow directions. Classes will meet at a combination of both the Davis Family YMCA and the Central YMCA. Participants must attend all classes.

Deck Mates Program

null Not old enough to become a lifeguard or swim instructor? The Deck Mates program might be for you! This program is designed for enthusiastic individuals who want to have fun in the water and make a difference in their community. Participants will learn essential leadership skills, gain the knowledge and skills necessary to help prevent aquatic risks, assist and alert a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident or injury, as well as assist swim instructors during swim lessons. Candidates must be at least 12 years old, able to tread water for one minute, swim 50 yards continuously, and perform a back float.
